BIG FISH

Review by
Louis Dimsdale
10 out of 10
AMAZING!!!
|
Go and see Big Fish on the big
screen if your a lover of great movies. I can't see why anyone wouldn't
love this one. I had a huge grin on my face from start to finish
watching this. A instant classic! Tim Burtons best movie to date
by a long shot.
It's a story
about a Father that loves telling stories and a son thats grown
up to be sick to death of heading them. It's not until his father
gets very ill that his son start trying to work out what parts of
his father stories are truths and and what's not.
Now some of
these stories are pretty amazing, some might even say verging on
the fantastical side of realty, but one thing they are, is beautifully
crafted and told by a master story teller. I will not tell you anything
that happen because each tail is such a joy to hear with a fresh
open mind.and no idea with what's going to happen next.
This is a a
real jem of a movie, something that will touch your heart and give
you a whole new fresh look on life.

HERO

(Click to

Review by
Louis Dimsdale
11 out of 10 |
It doesn't get much better than this. Hero has a super cast starting
some of the biggest names in Hong Kong movie industry with Jet Li,
Donny Yen (Iron Monkey, Shanghai Knights), Maggie Chueng (The
Heroic Trio, Police Story 2), Tony Leung (Infernal.Affairs, Tokyo
Raider) and Zhang Ziyi (Crouching Tighter, Rush Hour2).
The
story is set (my Chinese history isn't that great and all the in-movie
text is in Chinese) at the dawn of the great dynasty with the forming
of one Kingdom under one Emperor. A great many wars has been fort
many years and the Emperor has made many enemies in the process.
The
movie unfolds in a unique way, No Name (Jet Li) arrives at the Emperors
Palace to clamed the bounty on a number of assassins that had formally
tried to kill Emperor. The Emperor asks to hear his intriguing tale
and for payment of each of the bounties, No Name is aloud nearer
and nearer to the Emperor, which he secretly intends to kill.
Anyway's,
you will have to see the movie to find out how it unfolds. But this
so one of the most beautifully looking movies ever. The colour's
are amazing, it's sort of like a huge budget art house movie. The
fights are just magic to watch. Forget that crap you seen in the
matrix movies, these fights are just amazing.
This movie is
meant to be getting a release in the west, but who knows when. I
say buy it from your locale importer or direct from a Hong Kong
online store. This is one of the greatness movies ever made (well,
Iiked it ;).

NED

Review by

8 out of 10 |
Well, I have to say the resent big budget Ned Kelly movie with
Heath Ledger sort of sucked. Maybe Ned really wasn't a very exciting
guy after all? But this comic version just rocks!
Written, Directed
and Stared in by Abe Forsythe (Who's he?) this is a fun, smelly,
poo poo of a movie. Something that I just suited me down to a
tea. From Ned's father being a rubber plant farmer to the hamster
loving Governor Sinclair, it doesn't get much Stillier than this.
Other classic moments are the bank robbery where they do there
boy band number, the KKK and the goat, Nudge from hey dad, the
blowing up of the bridge and the scene in the brothel with the
various balls.
For a young
first time Director, this his a good laugh a minute movie that
is very much worth tracking down at your locale video store.

28
Days Later

Review by

9 out of 10 |
Lets
all welcome back what I hope is a new eria of the good old Zombie
flick!! (if anyone out there saw that assuie zombie moive UnDead,
write us in review of that for us, we missed seeing it here)
Directed
by Danny Boyle, the guy that brought us great movie such as The
Beach (well, I loved it), Trainspotting & Shallow Grave comes
the indie movie '28 Days Later'. A deadly virus has wiped out
most of the population and turned the rest into crazed flesh eating
Zombies. The movie starts 28 days after the initial outbreak with
Jim awaking in a hospital bed and wondering around completely
deserted London streets until he runs into a pack of zombies.
The zombies in this movie are totally berserk, supers fast and
very savage.
Anyway, Jim
meets up with a few other people and they all set of to track
down a army message playing on a radio station, believing it to
be thier savour.
The
ending of the movie is pretty guy so hung in through the end of
the credits for the real ending.

Cypher

Review by

9 out of 10 |
I love going
to see a movie that I know nothing about. I herd that CYPHER was
directed by the guy that did CUBE (another excellent movie) and
that was enough for me to drag Ferdinand along with me.
This is a very complex story, and I must amit, that it lost me
for a little while there, but it's one of those movies that you
can't get out of your head afterwards. Morgan Sullivan is a humble
accountant working at a multinational company called Digicorp,
who dreams of a life a little more exciting. When the opportunity
arises to move up in the ranks and become a corporate spy, he
jumps at the chance - only to find his 'spying' involves little
more than attending trade conventions on cheese, aftershave and
recording the proceedings for his bosses. But on a seemingly chance
meeting with a pretty girl in a bar, Morgan Sullivans world soon
start to unravel around him.
I don't want
to say much more, but if you liked movies along the lines of The
Matrix, Clockwork Orange or Total Recall, yours going to have
fun here.

Brazil

I hade a couple of airconditioning guys in my office
the other day and it really reminded me of a scene from Brazil.
What with all this terrorist stuff happening lately I thought
it was a good example of art imitating life. Any way here goes.
With all
the world being more concerned than ever about terrorism I revisited
a movie called Brazil, made by one of my all time favorite Animators
and Producer/Directors Terry Gilliam. Brazil is George Orwell's
1984 created in 1985. With a slightly romantic and prophetic feel
to it Brazil is the story of Sam Lowry who is caught up in a world
run by bureaucrats and fashion freaks. Terrorism is a common problem,
tradesman are hard to come by, bureaucracy runs everything and
fashion sets high prices for its devotees. It all adds up to a
beautiful futurist parody of modern life. In the middle of this
we follow a middle aged and intelligent guy go through a life
changing and empowering event that gets him into all types of
trouble and eventually makes him an enemy of the state. I really
recommend this movie it has Blade runner style sets and definite
Orwellian overtones. For any one who is already confused about
the state of the world this movie is a must. Not because it will
help clear things up, but because it will make you realize your
not alone

The Tracker

review by
Louis Dimsdale
9 out 10
|
Directed by Rolf De Heer (Bad Boy Bobby), this
movie tells the fictional story of The Tracker (David Gulpilil)
on the trail of another accused of raping a women. Accompanying
him are, The Fanatic (Gary Sweet), The Follower and The Veteran
(none of them are ever refured to by name) occupy him on the search.
But when the party come across a group of locales camping along
a river and start questioning them, the interrogation soon turns
to a massacre. And we are left wondering there the loyalties of
The Tracker now really lie.
As the groups
moves deeper into the Australian out back, they soon become more
and more reliant on the Tracker as the fiction between the men
starts to grows.
Anyway, this
movie just blew me away, it was sort of shot like an old Clint
Eastwood Spaghetti Western. The music was truly haunting and Aboriginal
paints where used to show extreams in the movie to great effect.
You should
be able to pick this up at any good video store.

Mate!!! How much fun can you have with 3 spunky
chicks in one movie. No this isn't that Holywood Charlies Angles
remake rubish, this is pure Hong Kong loving action fun. Staring
the beautiful Shu Qi (Gorgeous, The Transporter), Zhao Wel (Shaolin
Soccer) and Karen Mok (Black Mask I think). Directed by the HK
action master Corey Yuen (Fong Sai Yuk, The Transporter, Kiss
of the Dragon).
The cool story line revolves around 2 sisters court up in a deadly
double cross by a group of powerful corporate gangsters that just
hired them for a job, whiles a Rookie Cop and her parter trie
to unravel who just pulled the job. A turn of events bring the
girls together as they shoot, kung-fu, samurai sowrd their way
through the badess. (a very simplifed summary of events, I don't
want to give to much of it away)
This was
one of them suprise movies that just passed me by completely un-notice,
so a big thanks must go out to my lovely miss's for finding this
one at the locale video store (she has brought home some crap
over the years).
